Choose a desk mat by measuring the clear, supported rectangle on your desk, including the space needed for ordinary mouse movement. PrintMyPad's custom builder lists 36 × 16 inches and 31.5 × 13.8 inches. If neither fits, a smaller surface or another accessory is the practical choice.
The listed product dimensions are the starting point for planning. Confirm any tight-fit requirement before ordering and avoid assuming that a rounded metric label is an exact conversion of an inch label.
Measure the usable surface
Position the monitor, speakers, lamp and any equipment that stays on the desk. Measure the space remaining in front of and between those items. Include clamp bases, cable exits and the area needed to open drawers or reach controls.

The pixel examples are calculations, not mandatory file requirements or print-quality guarantees. Image content, compression and source detail also matter.
Test the footprint at full scale
Mark the proposed outline with paper or another suitable removable method. Put the actual keyboard and mouse in position, then use them normally. The mat should be fully supported without overhanging the desk or blocking device ventilation.
For example, a 34 × 15-inch clear area can nominally contain a 31.5 × 13.8-inch rectangle, leaving 2.5 inches across the width and 1.2 inches in depth. A 30-inch clear width cannot contain either listed size. These are layout examples; check actual product dimensions for a close fit.
A full-size keyboard leaves a different visible area from a compact keyboard. Measure the keyboard you own instead of relying on a generic photograph. Keep the mouse area clear of notebooks and laptop corners.
Adapt the layout to your working side
Left-handed mouse users should plan around their actual position. Put important artwork in the visible area that remains after the keyboard, mouse and other tools are placed. A composition designed for a right-side mouse zone may need moving rather than simply copying.
For two users, measure each area independently. Two 31.5-inch mat widths total 63 inches before any gap or clearance, but that arithmetic does not establish that a shared desk has enough room for both people. Our shared-workspace guide covers the wider arrangement.
Match the image proportions
An aspect ratio describes width relative to height. A wide landscape is often easier to crop for an extended mat than a tightly framed portrait. Preserve the proportions of faces and logos; extending or composing a background is preferable to stretching a subject sideways.

Calculate effective image resolution
Divide the source image's pixel width by the intended printed width in inches. A 5,400-pixel image across 36 inches gives 150 pixels per inch. The same file may still need a different crop for the other listed shape. Changing a file's resolution label without adding genuine detail does not improve the original image.
Ask for a file review if faces, small text or precise logos are important. Review a separate proof or sample where needed and available; do not infer a physical result from the resolution number alone.
