A coordinated shared setup needs a few common decisions, not identical equipment. Agree on the room layout, a small palette and shared storage, then let each person choose artwork and peripherals that fit their own habits. Two different desk mats can belong together through color, subject or visual weight.
First distinguish two people with separate work areas from two people taking turns at one workstation. The space and reset requirements are different, even when the room looks similar in a photograph.
Decide what is shared and what stays personal
| Decide together | Choose individually |
|---|---|
| Desk positions and walking routes | Keyboard layout and mouse side |
| Main furniture finishes | The surface feel each person prefers |
| One or two connecting colors | Artwork, photos and personal references |
| Cable routes and storage boundaries | The tools needed for each person's work |
| A closing routine for shared equipment | Which accessories deserve space on the desk |
Keep equipment access practical. A shared printer or charger should not require reaching over someone else's active keyboard. Leave the clearances specified for laptops, displays and other devices.
Three ways different artwork can coordinate
Use a shared palette. One person might choose a blue landscape while the other chooses blue-and-white abstract artwork. Repeating colors can connect the two workstations without requiring identical scenes.
Use a related subject. Two nature prints can show different places. Two original illustrations can reference the same story while reflecting different characters or interests. Check permission before reproducing commissioned or collaborative artwork.
Use similar visual weight. A very detailed print next to an almost blank one can still work, but review the room as a whole. Similar contrast or border structure may provide enough connection when the subjects are unrelated.

This illustrated catalog design offers one bookish direction. Pairing it with another green or woodland print is a concept to explore, rather than a prescribed matching set. See cozy gaming ideas and room color coordination for additional directions.
Measure each work area separately
Do not assume that two desks described with the same overall width have the same usable area. Monitor feet, speakers and side shelves can change the space. PrintMyPad's listed custom sizes are 36 × 16 inches and 31.5 × 13.8 inches; both need a fully supported footprint.
As an illustrative example, two 31.5-inch mats placed side by side occupy 63 inches before any gap or outside clearance. That does not mean they suit a single 63-inch table: there must also be enough depth and room for both people's equipment and ordinary movements. Use the size guide before choosing.
If one person uses a left-handed mouse layout, plan artwork around that open side. A face or logo positioned for the other person's desk may be covered on theirs.
For a workstation used at different times
Keep personal items in separate trays or containers and define a neutral starting position for shared equipment. Save individual screen preferences through the device's supported settings. Set aside a place for the inactive laptop, keeping active devices ventilated.
Agree which items stay on the surface. A favorite specialist mouse pad should not be replaced just to make the room photograph more symmetrical. Our work-and-gaming guide covers equipment transitions, and the small-space guide covers rooms that need a complete daily reset.
Make coordinated gifts a joint choice
For an anniversary or shared milestone, offer a palette and a few artwork options before commissioning a pair. A surprise can focus on the story while leaving size and layout decisions to the users.
Explore existing designs, or prepare two owned images for the custom builder. Each mat should be selected and configured for its intended user; ask about any multi-design business project separately rather than assuming a particular bulk arrangement.
